AUTOMATED INGESTION OF AUDIOVISUAL CONTENT

Rai - Centro Ricerche e Innovazione Tecnologica - Turin - ItalyThis paper describes the concept design of an ingestion system based on components designed for corporate use, most of which have been in operation for several years and are essential bits for the RAI Multimedia Catalogue feeding. The main features of this ingestion system include scene change based key frame extraction, audio, video, time code and close caption logging, speech to text transcription and batch low quality content copies generation. All the processes can be fully automated under human supervision. In the paper, the role of ingestion, drawing a bridge between managed and unmanaged content, is analysed. The RAI implementation is then shown as an example, and future developments are envisaged, describing also some application scenarios.
