DVB Standards:
from generalist TV to new interactive multimedia services.
Ten years ago DVB started up his activity. The first core of the project, called European Launching Group, was formed by a limited number of european partners representing broadcasters, network operators, manufacturers and regulators; the group had the objective of elaborating a standard for the digital terrestrial television. Very soon the group became an international Forum (the signature of the Mou in september 1993 was attended by 83 members); working in an incredible spirit of cooperation, taking up challenges and pursuing the consensus in the pre-competitive phase of new ideas, DVB has promoted more than 70 standards for satellite, cable and terrestrial television. DVB has reached today a membership of about 300 partners from all over the world. Moving further outside his original heartland technology of original broadcasting the project has significantly changed his character over the years being fully integrated in a context where the converging technologies and the markets of telecommunications, broadcasting and IT are blurring and f ading up the conventional boundaries between those fields.
