Holography: principles and examples of applications
In the field of the three-dimensional visualization, the holography holds a particular importance since it is the only technology capable to reproduce virtual and real true three-dimensional images.
Nowadays, many are the applications of the holography techniques, but seldom they are spectacular: as an example consider the security seals.
On the contrary, the holographic TV seems to be still very far away. In fact, even very advanced programs, like the Japanese ones, aim to have three dimensional systems (but not necessarily based on holography) not before the next 15-20 years.
In the meanwhile, other three dimensional display techniques, like stereoscopy, could reach a success before being overcome by more advanced systems.

HDTV: shooting session to prepare test sequences
In the week from 4th to 7th December, the Research Centre of Rai (Turin, Italy) hosted a shooting session to prepare dedicated test sequences in the HDTV formats 1080p/50, 720p/50, 1080i/25 and 1080p/25.
An EBU technical project is evaluating these formats, since EBU members are concerned about the variety of HDTV compression formats proposed for use in future HDTV studio environments.
