Holophony - Trials with Holophone H2-PRO microphone
From January to June 2008 we carried out trials with Holophone H2-Pro microphone, to verify its handiness in various shooting conditions and the quality of obtainable results. The characterization of a wide selection of events and shooting conditions implied the displacement into various Italian sites. These experiences contriubuted not only to the technical knowledge enrichment, but also to the cultural awarness of the participants.

SFN DVB-T: Q&A
(Everything You Always Wanted to Know About SFN,
But Were Afraid to Ask)

We gathered some “frequently asked questions” about the design, maintenance and control of SFN (single-frequency network). Although DVB-T is explicitly addressed, same concepts also apply to other OFDM-based system. We added some basic questions and tried to give simple and clear answers, yet based on years of hands-on experience.

Near Shannon limit.
60 years after
Sixty years ago, Claude E. Shannon formulated a fundamental equation, a landmark in the communication theory. It is the relationship between the channel capacity and its bandwidth. In the following years, the evolution of the error correcting codes was rapid, with the objective to find coding schemes to approach channel capacity , hereafter called "the Shannon limit". At the beginning, applications were mainly found for Deep-Space Communications. More recently, achievents in this field were fundamental to implement applications and services nowdays essentials, as mobile services and digital TV broadcasting. In the last 15 years, with the Turbo Code breakthrough and the following rediscovery of LDPC Codes, we are able to approach, and nearly reach, the Limit. Among the first applications to meet the result, the second generation TV broadcasting system DVB-S2 is preeminent.
