TV signals on ultra-wideband optical fibre networks

Optical fibres are now increasingly popular in telecommunications, due to their extremely high bandwidth, their very low attenuation, their complete immunity to electromagnetic interference and their reduced diameter and weight.
For these reasons, they are playing an increasing role in trasporting TV content, both for in-building TV signal distribution within the multi-service optical infrastructure, which is mandated in all new buildings (Italian Law 164, 2014) and for TV consumption via broadband networks, which will benefit from ongoing investments in FTTH (Fiber to The Home) architectures, where the fibre is terminated at each building. In Italy, network operators are launching massive optical fiber investment plans over the next five years, not only to cover the most densely populated areas (A and B) but also for less profitable areas (C and D).

Multimedia IN Digital radio

MIND: a management system for Digital Radio Multimedia Services

MIND is the “Content Management” and “Multichannel Publishing” system that allows to associate and synchronize images and textual information with each of the DAB+ radio channels distributed across the network nationwide. Its ability to synchronize with the channel’s schedule and to choose and create new content to be transmitted, allows to get a channel dynamism even without a continuous publisher’s intervention.

ATLAS project

ATLAS is a research project, co-funded by the Region of Piedmont, which allowed to build a platform for the transposition of a text in Italian Sign Language in the animation of a Virtual Actor made in 3D computer graphics. The ATLAS technology therefore provides support for language translation of the signs of audiovisual content, teletext, subtitles, and Internet pages, allowing you to convey the translated content to mobile terminals, digital televisions and web platforms.

HEAD project (Human Empowerement Aging And Disability)

Technology and Network for Tele-Rehabilitation Service

The purpose of the Head project is the realization of a telecommunication network technology and rehabilitation technology to an address which goes to build a network of neuro-rehabilitation aimed at the provision of a distributed sustainable service. When during operation there is an involvement of the patient’s emotional sphere, as well as the rational one, the results in terms of continuity of ‘attention, and the effectiveness of the exercise therapy are significantly higher. For this purpose for the construction of rehabilitation exercises will use some of the content of the showcases RAI and will be implemented an IT infrastructure that would enable staff to prepare exercises using the patient’s life material, photos, memories, home movies, photos of the house and places of ‘childhood taken from Google Earth. For the use of television content will be made available to the Project Head of the Stretch & Easy TV technologies developed at the Research Centre. The primary objectives will then be the definition and structuring of rehabilitative care contextualized processes, individualized with the related health and social care for chronic disabling conditions determined by congenital or acquired lesions of the nervous system, with use of innovative technologies.
